SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for conducting on-ground biological monitoring, predator control, response to injured/dead bird incidents and coordination between the project Biologist, management and State of Hawaii Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), Kauai Branch, in accordance with the terms and conditions detailed in the State of Hawaii ITL and the federal ITP, as well as activities conducted under the State of Hawaii Wildlife Depredation permit and the USFWS Office of Migratory Birds Cattle Egret depredation permit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions as defined are ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents within this classification. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conducts Nene and waterbird surveys as directed by the Wildlife Biologist, Avian Bio-Tech II and Program Biologist
- Document and recover injured protected species and transport to the Kauai Humane Society
- Document and retrieve any dead protected species, prepare incident report, notify the Wildlife Biologist, and Avian Bio-Tech II and project Biologist and store in project refrigerator until retrieved by DOFAW
- Assist Wildlife Biologist, and/or Avian Bio-Tech II build, install and maintain any fencing, barriers etc. that may be needed to protect protected species as needed
- Monitor golf, grounds keeping and construction activity to ensure that those activities do not threaten protected species, and are conducted in accordance with Company policy - report any such situations to the project Wildlife Biologist, and/or Avian Bio-Tech II and the program manager for remedial actions
- Understand company policies and ensure compliance with those policies
- Ensures safety standards, policies and program procedures are followed and advise Wildlife Biologist, and/or Avian Bio-Tech II of any such situations
- Safely operate golf carts, power tools, predator traps and any other equipment required to fulfill job requirements
- Ability to come to work regularly and on time, to follow directions, to take criticism, to get along with co-workers and supervisors
- Assist with other projects or assignments as requested
- Attends trainings and meetings as requested or required
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and/or skill required.
Education and Experience:
Six months of experience conducting similar wildlife monitoring, or a related college degree
Valid driver’s license
Required Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:
- Principles, practices and techniques of a Bio-Tech
- Applicable laws, codes and regulations associated with assigned work
- Computer applications related to the work
- Records management principles and practices
- Principles and techniques of preparing effective written informational or educational materials
- Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone, occasionally where relations may be confrontational or strained
Skill in:
- Carrying assigned projects through, from data gathering to completion
- Interpreting, applying and explaining federal, state and local laws/regulations
- Communicating effectively in oral and written forms
- Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials
- Using initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines
- Using tact, discretion and prudence in dealing with those contacted in the course of the work

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with occasional loud noise.
